Have you ever experienced the power of zine-making?

In this 2-hour workshop, we will explore the process of zine-making as an accessible tool to unleash our creativity, celebrate queerness and take charge of our own narratives.

Aghh! Zine will support you throughout your zine-making journey showing you how to create a zine and using some prompts relating to the theme “Celebrating Queerness” to help you get started.

Zines have a long history of activism, counter-culture and community. We welcome you to this safe space to meet other like-minded people and have a Queer Joy collective moment. A space where we can share our experiences, explore different subjects and celebrate ourselves and others.

Nuria Castro (she/her) is a Galician visual artist based in Brighton. With the help of colour, movement and different formats she captures emotions that she finds difficult to express. Her photography is focused on creating an intimate atmosphere with the people that she portrays. Since she moved away from home a need to explore topics like home, family and the feeling of belonging is really present in her art practice. Her work has been featured in various publications like United, by Work Show Work, Where are you a local? by Silvergrass Press and Letters to Lovers Zine.

MNamug (she/her) is a Brighton-based writer, poet, radio host, artist and photographer and is the co-founder of Aghh! Zine. MNamug has a BA in English Language and Literature and MA in Creative and Critical Writing from the University of Sussex. Her work has been featured in Sweet-thang Zine, Writing Our Legacy, Riot Soup, ONCA, Brighton and Metropolis Contemporary Gallery Art Gallery. Her interests are in social justice, amplifying marginalised voices and inspiring others.

This event is curated by students from the University of Sussex and University of Brighton.

Please note: Workshop tickets are not included in day or weekend passes and need to be purchased individually.
