Making History: Queering the Archive Workshop (Sunday)

12 October 2025 1:30pm 2 hours

Heritage Hub at the Library
Free, but places must be booked

With Erin James and Danny Millum

In this workshop, librarian Danny Millum and artist/archivist Erin James will guide you through the University of Sussex Library’s LGBTQ+ collections and offer a series of creative exercises to encounter, play with, (re)create, and reflect on queer history and our place within it today. We are privileged to be able to offer participants the unique opportunity to engage with historical material from the last 50 years, and find where their story fits along this timeline. This workshop is ideal for those seeking to engage in creative reflection, encounter local queer history, produce meaningful art, and take a more active role in preserving their own histories. Participants will be invited to engage with different art modes during the workshop, from zines, collages, poetry, playlists, letters and more.

Erin James is a Brighton / London based multi-disciplinary artist, hoping to change the world “one poem at a time”. Their framework for creating manifests as the merging of art and activism through their practices. Erin is passionate about using their art forms, such as Poetry and Sound, Creative Facilitation, Acting and Photography as a vessel for social change and decolonial healing.

Important: Festival or day passes do not include access to this event. To attend the workshop, you must book a separate ticket using the link below.
