With Erin James

Join poet and facilitator Erin James for a unique poetry workshop focused on working with and unpacking classic poetry texts, reworking them into our own, reclaimed, and present-tense narrative. We will use the process of “found poetry” – the literary equivalent of a collage, or a reworking of existing materials – to travel back in time to conversate, reimagine and add to the works of historical queer poets such as Sappho, Oscar Wilde and Emily Dickinson. If you’re interested in the history of queer poetry, and want a chance to write your own, this workshop is for you. No writing or poetry knowledge or experienced required. All welcome.

Erin James is a multi-disciplinary artist, poet, and facilitator working at the intersection of art and social change. Their framework for creating uses art forms such as poetry, sound, curation, facilitation and performance as vessels for “artivism”. Erin has performed poetry at festivals and venues such as FemFest, Brighton Festival and Brighton Dome, and facilitated workshops focussed on creative archiving, writing and poetry for the likes of Brighton & Croydon Museums and universities across the UK.
