Children’s Workshop: Illustrating An Exciting Journey with Harry Woodgate (for under 8s)

15 October 2023 11:00am

Tower Studio, Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts
Free. Booking essential.

With Harry Woodgate.

After a reading of Harry’s fantastic Grandad’s Camper, we will take inspiration from the scenes and places visited in the book to create a large-scale collaborative ‘journey’ artwork on a roll of paper.

Harry Woodgate (they/them) writes and illustrates diverse, inclusive stories that inspire young readers to be inquisitive, creative, kind, and proud of what makes them unique.

Their books include Grandad’s Camper, Grandad’s Pride, Timid, Little Glow, Shine Like The Stars, My First Baking Book and The Very Merry Murder Club.

Grandad’s Camper, their debut author-illustrator title, won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize Best Illustrated Book in 2022 as well as a Stonewall Book Award Honor from the American Library Association and the Children’s Illustrated Book of the Year at the British Book Awards in 2023. I was shortlisted for the inaugural Polari Children’s and YA Prize and was nominated for the CILIP Yoto Kate Greenaway Award.

When they’re not illustrating or writing, Harry loves writing music, cycling, baking, exploring independent coffee shops, botanic gardens and bookstores.
